What they say about Texans is true -- we’re friendly, wear boots occasionally, and say “Y’all” a lot. Those in the Austin area also flash a funny “horn” sign - forefinger and pinkie extended - and yell “Hook Em Horns” at the first sight of burnt orange.
I grew up in the Dallas suburb of Plano and proudly lay claim to being a fourth generation Texan. By nature I’m an optimist, have an eye for detail, and enjoy working with people.
More than twenty-seven-years ago, like many University of Texas students I fell in love with the beautiful Hill Country, and as good fortune would have it, a local boy too. We both wanted to live in the area and as we’re fond of saying, the rest is history.
My husband, Chuck, currently Chief Financial Officer of a small company headquartered in “old Georgetown” had first-hand knowledge of the town having graduated from Southwestern University. We instantly loved the quaintness of “old town” the spirit of the city, and felt at home. It was a great small town then; it’s an even better, family-oriented, larger town today.
Our two daughters, Brittany and Caitlin each went to kindergarten and their first twelve grades in the Georgetown Public Schools. Brittany is now a Chemical Engineer and lives near Houston and Caitlin is attending Austin Community College. Brittany, a third-generation UT alumnus and her new husband, also a chemical engineer are – you guessed it – diehard Longhorns.
The excitement of living in such a vibrant area is contagious. With our ties to UT we are an avid orange-blooded Longhorn family. Tailgating with friends has become a passion during football season. And, of course, burnt orange is our favorite color. Both my husband and I enjoy golf and play regularly at Berry Creek Country Club a first rate full service facility in the Berry Creek subdivision where we live. Occasionally when our knees are less sore, we’ll mix in a little tennis. We enjoy couples golf league and have made many wonderful friends.
As parents of students we were the music, math, honors and academic clubs equivalent to “soccer moms” when our girls were in the GISD. I served as co-chairman of fund raisers for the Susan G. Komen foundation, was Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years and coordinator for GHS Symphony support. We’ve been a part of numerous fund drives and participated in organizing various events involving local charities, GHS Orchestra, UT and Berry Creek.
Another consuming passion is my interest in horticulture and all things “green”. I love to dabble in the soil and can often be found with muddy hands transplanting, repotting and communing with nature. Prior to my involvement in real estate I was a district manager for a major distributor of flora and fauna. I need only a little prodding to talk incessantly about plants, trees and shrubs and the joys and benefits they bring to us all.
Buying or selling a home is a daunting task under the most favorable circumstances. A partnership with a dedicated and energetic real estate professional willing to go that extra mile is essential. Where are the best communities and sub divisions? Who are the best builders and where are the best schools? What should I look for in the structure of a house and how can I most effectively market it. What are the demographics and projections that will help me retain the value of my home? How do I market my home when I’m ready to sale? The list goes on.
I have been where you are both as a home buyer and as a home seller. Nothing prepares a real estate professional better than having walked miles in the shoes of a potential buyer or seller of what could be one’s greatest financial and emotional investment.
