What does a Czech-Cherokee do with a minor in education from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in communication from the University of Texas-Pan American? Well, this one opened her own independent real estate office in Georgetown, Texas.
There is a lot about real estate that requires the talents of a former educator. My 25 years of teaching experience ranges from pre-kinder to college level.
Whether educating sellers as to how to stage their home for a quick, equitable sale—or guiding buyers through the maze of selecting, negotiating, and purchasing their home—it’s all about education!
I believe in education. Each of my designations was earned to provide more complete, knowledgeable service to my clients.
My real estate designations such as ABR (Accredited Buyers Rep), GRI (Graduate, Residential Institute) and CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) show my dedication to my profession. They represent many hours of classes and exams.
With the changes in today’s real estate market, the SFR designation (Short Sales and Foreclosures Resource) is ever-important. Seeing as our Central Texas market is among the healthiest in the entire country, I have also recently acquired my ALHS designation: Accredited Luxury Home Specialist.
Black and gold have been the University of Iowa’s school colors for several decades. When I asked my husband, Michael Cox of The Creative ADvantage, to design our logo, we chose University of Iowa school colors. Michael’s professionalism in graphic design is a major force behind the dynamic print ads that Urban Homes and Land provides for clients in marketing their homes.
Recently Urban Homes and Land outgrew its downtown space. While I will remain active in the Downtown Georgetown Association, our 2500 square feet of offices are now poised along the south access road of bustling IH-35 at the corner of Williams Drive. We are located on the second floor, next to Georgetown Therapy, with views that take in the heart of Georgetown.
Walk in the door and the attention to detail is apparent. I have taken great pains to make our office comfortable and welcoming. People may find us on the Internet, but this is where they get to know us.
Besides the décor, the lack of franchise affiliation says a lot. It says: no franchise fees will be deducted from an agent’s commission. No padded transaction fees are charged to clients. It says that I have full control over how each client is served. It says that the name of the company IS important— my family name actually IS Urban. When your family name is on a business, it carries a lot of responsibility. I take Urban Homes and Land very seriously—and have a lot of fun doing what I do!
We’re running low on kids at our mini-ranch on the west edge of Georgetown! Kiri is currently working hard on an architecture degree at the University of Texas-Arlington.
Travis is studying at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Nicholas is participating in the Jazz Band at Austin Community College one more semester. He also tests software full-time in Austin. Joshua commutes back and forth to the Rio Grande Valley locating land for oil and gas leases. I am extremely proud of each of my children.
Rancho Urbanzo is populated by our happy dogs Fifi, the tree-climbing border collie saved from the Georgetown Animal Shelter and rambunctious Watson, Kiri’s piebald dachshund.
There are many worthwhile organizations in Georgetown. The Chamber is one of them. For the past 5 years I have served as Vice Chair of Membership for the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. In an effort to bring business women from across the county together, I was a founding member of Professional Women of Williamson County.
I am a member of National Association of REALTORS, Texas Association of REALTORS, and Williamson County Association of REALTORS. Due to my love of Historic Georgetown, I felt it was important to join the Downtown Georgetown Association and Friends of the Square. Friends of the Square meet socially and receive discounts from downtown merchants.
Georgetown has been our home for 12 years. I would love to help you move to Williamson County. Urban Homes and Land has been helping folks make the transition for the past 4 1/2 years. Give me a call—information is free!
